Zane Lowe at Mallorca Rocks

Zane is one of the godfather’s of the ‘Rocks family and newly installed as our music director for 2011 but that doesn’t mean he’ll be hanging up the decks, far from it! He’ll once again be bringing his high energy sets to the Balearics this summer and no doubt it will be one of the highlights once again.

Speaking of his new position, Zane said: “I DJ-ed at the first ever Rocks event and have been a supporter ever since, so it’s great to make it official. It’s exciting, ambitious and totally in tune. The energy is inexplicable and it’s drawn me back year on year.

Playing the opening of Mallorca Rocks last year was one of my best gigs to date and I’m delighted to be asked to be a bigger part of the events and the programming this year. Business as usual then. See you in the summer.”

Joining Zane on stage will be the most talked about guitar band of the past 12 months The Vaccines. This will be their balearic debut and a Rocks exclusive – we reckon this will be the closest you’ll get to them for a very long time as they are set to rule the festival season and beyond. With huge hits ‘If You Wanna’ and ‘Post Break-Up Sex’ dominating the airwaves its going to be a seminal music moment.

And completing the hippest show of the summer, we´ll be flying in one of New York’s most critically acclaimed acts of last year, Darwin Deez’ to top the night off with his Brooklyn cool sounds and indie floor-fillers ‘Radar Detector’ and ‘Constellations’.

The Wombats & Brother at Mallorca Rocks

After a two year break from the Rocks Hotels, Liverpool’s finest indie-pop export of the last decade – The Wombats – are set to head back to the Balearics this summer.

Murph, Dan and Tord will have new album, ‘The Modern Glitch’, in tow plus hits such as ‘Kill The Director’, ‘Moving To New York’ and ‘Backfire At The Disco’ from their debut ‘A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation’ too. The band said: “Last time we played Ibiza Rocks we had an amazing time. At that time, the gig was held by a racetrack. We had a guy dressed up as a wolf on stage and we rode around the race track in a horse and chariot before the gig! Pretty special memories. We can’t wait to play in both islands this year, double the fun! See you there.”

They are joined on the bill by one of 2011′s most hyped new bands – Brother who have been making headlines with their combination of ridiculously catchy hooks and trademark swaggerNME said of the Wombats “They seem to have stumbled upon the perfect formula for the indie-rock disco anthem… full of exhilarating punk-funk.. brilliantly fun. We suggest you enjoy The Wombats – because they are sure as hell going to be around for a while yet.”

Red Lion Bar [Review]

In my 3 previous trips to Magaluf I’d not stepped foot in this bar before, no reason why, just a place we’d not ventured to.

This year we agreed to try some new places, Red Lion being one of them and I must admit it seems as though we’d missed out! This place was off the hook!!  Bigger inside than what it looks from the outside.

Probably the biggest bar in Magaluf! It was busy every time we went in!  The music was very good, DJ played a good mixture of tunes which not only had the dance floor jumping, the whole club seemed to be one big dance floor if I’m honest!  Best bar of 2010 for me along with Chaplins. Red Lion probably wins it due its consistency in high numbers.
