With sold-out shows every week mixing the biggest names in dance music along with some of clubbing’s biggest brands and chart stars, it’s no wonder that this year has seen it hit the DJ Mag Top 100 Clubs In The World poll as the highest new entry (Number 11)! And with Radio 1 and 1Xtra on board for a run of shows this year (including a live broadcast on July 16th) alongside the established favourites, this landmark club’s reputation is only going to get bigger still. This season sees the likes of Tiesto, Tinie Tempah, Calvin Harris, Labrinth, Far East Movement, N-Dubz, Laidback Luke, DJ Sammy, Cascada, Eddie Halliwell, Judge Jules, Howard Donald, Krafty Kuts, Kutski, Mickey Slim, Mistajam, Tim Westwood, Trevor Nelson, DJ Semtex and Roll Deep all perform.

Throw in 35 performance dancers, breathtaking aerial artists and a stunning laser show, and it’s not hard to say why BCM leaves such a lasting impression on all who visit. As well as the huge names featuring in the main venue, Millennium underneath BCM plays host to foam, water and popcorn parties as well as the infamous Washing Machine.

Here’s the full run-down of what’s in store for BCM Mallorca’s 22nd year in action:

BCM Planet Dance New VIP Area!

Now in its 3rd decade, BCM Planet Dance in Magaluf is nothing less than a global clubbing institution, setting the bar for what should be expected from a 21st century MEGACLUB. Already packing a rib-shaking 80,000 watts of world-class sound system, the club was taken to the next level recently with the installation of a brand new VIP lounge overlooking the main room, costing nearly £250,000 and spanning the whole of the upper floor!

Fiesta Sahara (now the Fresh Sahara) [Review]

Having stayed at these apartments in past (2000,2001, 2002), I was able to enjoy the wonders of Magaluf in what is one of thee most popular apartments, aimed at a young audience, with bookings being taken, typically from Thomsons and their associated partners.

The complex is split into two blocks, both identical in terms of there room layout and erected over 5 floors. Looking at the blocks from the main entrance there is a small parade of amusement and vending machines from which there is a clear link between the reception and the on site supermercado (crudely still have the ‘oasis’ logo above it from when the hotel was called Oasis Sahara(!)). This as you would expect for an apartment block offers guests the chance to purchase food, drink, cigarettes, gifts and various utensils and homeware to make your stay at the apartments whatever you want it to be.

The range is fairly extensive owing to its size and if your unfamiliar with magaluf, the prices charged are fair and reasonable, with variety of most ‘UK’ branded tins, cereals and drinks quite good. In the hotter months it is advisable to consider the hassle factor of buying groceries from further afield as you have to carry them for ‘miles’ in the heat, which isn’t ideallic, or indeed what holidays are all about.

Moving onto the reception facility, with a light and airy feel there is a sloping Egyptian style counter as you arrive with comfy sofas, internet and phone areas complete with an exit to the pool environment. On our experience of the check in, it was relatively swift and every time the representative was informative and helpful in advising of the facilities of the hotel. Of interest to guests checking in, as usual for holiday aboard, is the safety deposit box, this retailed at 20E per week, with a 10E deposit. Worth considering for storing valuables. Whilst we never seen any evidence of break ins, cleaners doing the off with your iPod, it’s a valuable bit of kit and provides more ‘peace of mind’ than not having it, Iv always felt that way about it anyway.

The check in aside, 2 keys are issued for utilisation and if your on a odd number your apartment will be on the left hand side (same side as reception) and even numbers are located on the supermarket side. As it so happens, our rooms were 401, 443 and 405 for the times we stayed, so we always had a pool view on the ‘odd’ side and were always on the 4th floor. It is worth noting, and don’t ask why, but there is no ‘403’ or indeed any ‘*03’ on any floor, don’t know the reason for this. Having became friendly with our neighbours over the holidays the view from the non pool side is not that great, you look onto other apartments, or the main road. However it just depends how anal you are about viewing the pool.

On the pool topic, it is easily one of the best in magaluf. Large, spacious and with plenty of room for a carry on or to just relax and read your book there is ample space for all. The only downside is that unless your down before 12-1pm then you may struggle to get a sunlounger, however the Restaurant on site does offer some areas for seating, but only if your buying a breakfast or burger.

On  the subject of eating, there is a the on site facility, which is good for lights snacks, juice, crisps and the like during the day. I wouldn’t class it as the pinnacle of fine dining however and we always ate elsewhere at night for dinners as we felt it was a good idea to mix up the venues for eating on the holiday and didn’t feel that the on site catering was worthy for an evening meal. Variety was ample though, covering all british favourites from Pizza, Burgers, Toasties and the like.

If on the other hand your more a budding Gordon Ramsay and fancying exercising your skills in the kitchen there is a decent selection of utensils to do this. Space is pretty limited, so that huge 3 courser you had in mind probably is best abandoned. Typically the kitchens had a few pots, bowls, jugs (good for alcoholic cocktails), plates, saucers, knifes and forks. So idea for a bit of French toast, spaghetti and small snack orientated dishes and little else. We did understand that any breakages were being taken seriously by staff on site, so probably best being careful when getting your 5th pint of vodka red bull in the apartment and accidentally dropping the glass. Way of avoiding this is of course to spend a few quid on disposable numbers.

Outwith the complex there is a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants on ‘Carrer Blanc’ which is the street on which the hotels entrance is sitting. Of particular note, we would recommend Bar Moon, which is diagionally opposite the entrance, it offers a lot of dishes and the menu choices go over 200 items and the owner, Gregorio, is a very charming and hospitable chap, who offers a good spot of nosh and drinks prior to going out.

Opposite this is a Spar Supermercado, which we found to be good value and handy for morning baguettes in the apartments. Wider range of goods compared to the ‘Oasis’ on site effort. Elsewhere on the street, highlights include Burger King on the corner, if you’re a burger fan, Hang Zu Chinese, doing a buffet for 9E in the evenings and a few other restaurants and the legendary ‘Benny Hills’ amusement arcade and bar.

Venue is ideal, round the corner from BCM, 5-10mins to the strip and the beach. Cant complain in that respect.

Overall it’s the perfect venue for an enjoyable young persons holiday. Thoroughly recommended and we had a cracking time each year we went.

Popcorn party at Millenium!

They are rare, but they are fun!!

Once in a while, the downstairs club of Bcm, also called Millenium, will throw a full-on Popcorn Party with everything included..  And you will probably not believe this, but most of the popcorns gets eaten before the night is over!

It’s pure fun and crazy, and people are sticking those corns up and in EVERYWHERE possible.

We don’t want to talk about cleaning up afterward, but it’s a fact that about 200 kg. of popcorns, made in advance, gets thrown out on the dancefloor and in the faces of people.. And everybody loves it!

So, the next time you visit Magaluf, you better check up with the Bcm homepage calendar, to see when the next Popcorn Party will come about..  It’s worth a visit, for sure..!

    Tiesto Live at BCM

Tiesto is dj’ing live at BCM Planet Dance in Magaluf this July 8th 2009!

born Tijs Michiel Verwest on January 17, 1969)  is a Dutch musician, DJ  and record producer of electronic dance music. Although he has used many aliases in the past, he is best known for his work as DJ Tiësto.  On his latest productions, however, he has dropped the “DJ” label and is now known simply as “Tiësto”,  an alias which is a twist of his childhood nickname.

In 1997 he founded the label Black Hole Recordings with Arny Bink, where he released the Magik and In Search of Sunrise CD series. In 1999 and 2000 he collaborated with Ferry Corsten to create Gouryella. His 2000 remix of Delerium’s “Silence” featuring Sarah McLachlan exposed him to more mainstream audiences. In 2001 he released his first solo album In My Memory which gave him several major hits that launched his career. He was named “World’s No.1 DJ” 3 consecutive times by DJ Magazine from 2002 through 2004.

Just after releasing his second studio album Just Be in 2004, at the Summer Olympics he performed live at the opening ceremony in Athens, Greece, becoming the first DJ to play live on stage at an Olympics Games. Tracks he made especially for the Olympics were mixed together and released as the mix compilation Parade of the Athletes later that year. He was appointed Officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau in 2004 by Queen Beatrix. He was chosen as the official ambassador for the Dance4Life foundation in May 2006, and released the song “Dance4Life” with Maxi Jazz to help spread the awareness of HIV/AIDS. In April 2007 Tiësto launched both his radio show Tiësto’s Club Life on Radio 538 in the Netherlands and released his third studio album titled Elements of Life. The album reached number one on the Dutch album chart as well on “Billboard Top Electronic Albums” in the U.S. and received a nomination for a Grammy Award in 2008. Tiësto released his fourth studio album called Kaleidoscope in October 2009.

In 2008 and 2009, Tiësto was elected to the International Dance Music Awards (IDMA) at the Winter Music Conference in Miami as the best global DJ.

Make sure you don’t miss this night!!!
